About Housing Authority of the City of Columbus

The Public Housing and Section 8 tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) assistance programs are funded by the federal government and administered by The Housing Authority of the City of Columbus, Indiana for the jurisdiction of the City of Columbus, Indiana and a 5-mile radius from city limits.

From 1981 until 1985 CHA developed 3 public housing rental complexes for families, elderly & disabled persons totaling of 114 units. In public housing the CHA is landlord of these properties.
CHA also purchased & renovated 43 existing houses scattered throughout the City of Columbus and developed these as scattered site rentals. The public housing program has 157 units.

Sycamore Place and Pence Place were designed by Gwathmey-Siegel and Associates and have taken their place in the Columbus Architectural Tour as examples of a unique environment created in public housing in the 1980's. Local Architect, Bill Burd designed Heritage Woods.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Housing Authority of the City of Columbus, Indiana is to operate a financially sound public housing agency that provides a drug-free, safe, affordable environment and to promote opportunities for families and individuals of all abilities who desire to achieve self-sufficiency.
